Courses

Courses taught at Texas A&M University-Kingsville

Fisheries Management and Conservation
  • An upper-level course focused on the principles and practices of managing fish populations and aquatic resources. Topics include population dynamics, stock assessment, habitat management, policy, and ecosystem-based fisheries management, with an emphasis on real-world applications in freshwater and coastal systems.
Marine Ecology
  • This course explores ecological processes in marine and estuarine environments, including species interactions, energy flow, and responses to environmental change. Students engage with primary literature and datasets to understand how marine communities are structured and how they respond to natural and human-driven disturbances.
Ichthyology
  • A comprehensive study of fish biology, diversity, and evolution. Students learn fish anatomy, physiology, systematics, and ecology, with a strong emphasis on identification of freshwater and estuarine fishes of Texas and understanding their ecological roles.
Conservation Biology
  • This course examines the science and practice of conserving biodiversity in the face of human-driven environmental change. Topics include threats to species and ecosystems, conservation planning, restoration, and the role of policy and management. Emphasis is placed on applying ecological principles to real-world conservation challenges.
General Biology II
  • An introductory course covering organismal biology, including plant and animal diversity, evolution, ecology, and physiology. The course emphasizes scientific thinking, data literacy, and real-world applications of biological concepts.
Research Problems
  • An independent study course where students gain hands-on research experience under faculty mentorship. Students develop skills in experimental design, data collection and analysis, and scientific communication through individualized or collaborative research projects.
Thesis Research
  • A graduate-level research course focused on the development and completion of a Master’s thesis. Students conduct original research, analyze data, and produce a written thesis while working closely with their advisor and committee.
